Britain’s leading tree professionals show China the way forward - 24 March 2010

Britain’s leading tree professionals show China the way forward

International co-operation and mutual understanding in forestry matters is a key factor in the fight against climate change. Meeting this need head on, the Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF) is to host a meeting with a delegation led by officials from the State Forestry Administration of China later this month to discuss professionalism in UK forestry and arboriculture.

On March 31, 17 officials ranging from representatives from Chinese state provinces, to the Chinese Academy of Forestry Science will meet with ICF Vice President, Fenning Welstead FICFor, and ICF Executive Director, Shireen Chambers MICFor, at the ICF headquarters in Edinburgh.  The visiting group is headed by Mr Gao Yuying, Director-General Inspector of the Development & Funds Management Division of the State Forestry Administration of China.

It is hoped that this meeting will help pave the way for future co-operation between China and the UK on forestry matters.

ICF Executive Director, Shireen Chambers MICFor, said:

“We can all learn from each other. We’re delighted to have the opportunity to raise the profile of our members working in forestry and arboriculture. It’s a credit to them and to the value of becoming a chartered professional.”

“With the increasing international focus on climate change and the bigger picture, it’s very important to support co-operation and mutual learning. As the Royal Chartered body for foresters and arboriculturists in the UK, the ICF should play a role in this.”
