Wood for Good

Wood for good is the UK's wood promotion campaign. The Wood for Good campaign works on behalf of the whole timber industry in the UK. It aims to promote the suitability and sustainability of wood as a building material to the construction and logistics sectors and associated professionals such as architects and design engineers.

Wood for Good has launched the Timber Industry Manifesto

The manifesto, which has the full backing of the leading bodies in the timber industry, outlines why wood is good for the environment, the economy and for communities. The Manifesto sets out seven policy issues that they would like to see addressed by the Government.

Wood for good have also put together a series of short videos - where experts in their field outline some impressive facts about wood.  These videos demonstrate how increasing the use of wood will have benefits for the environment, the economy and the community.

Wood for Good in house Continuing Professional Development

The Wood Studio in Edinburgh Napier University's Forest Products Research delivers Wood for Good's continuing professional development programme for architects in Scotland. The timber related topics on offer correspond to the RIBA's Core Curriculum structure for CPD, thus enabling architects to benefit from objective, independent research in ten areas of the Curriculum's 31-subject syllabus. The programme material has been devised to provide objective, independent information at the "detailed knowledge" level; one of three categories recognised by the Curriculum.  Our current programme on offer to larger practice and consultancies includes:
• Sustainable Construction Timber (specification and procurement of UK grown timber)
• External timber cladding : design installation and performance
• External timber cladding : detailing and workmanship
• Cross laminated timber
We believe we have unmatched expertise in these areas and have published definitive publications on the first two, with other material due to be published on additional topics (including CLT, and also other engineered timber products) in the foreseeable future. We would be delighted to hear from practices regarding any of the above topics, or indeed if there is an alternative topic that you would like to see covered.
The Wood Studio offers in-house presentations free of charge to larger firms and consultancies. Sessions and topics are arranged to take place in your premises at a date and time convenient to you.
In addition to in-house CPD presentations, the Wood Studio also mounts a continuing programme of conferences and seminars in cities throughout Scotland. Details of all events are featured on our website (www.napier.ac.uk/wpig).
