E-business in the Forest and Timber Industries

E-business has been identified by Scottish Enterprise as an area for further development offering competitive advantage across the Scottish supply chain.  A collaborative approach has been developed through the E-Business Forum to support E-business development and uptake .The work undertaken by the Forum includes Scotland, England and Wales.

A key objective is to highlight some of the opportunities and benefits of being 'well-connected' and works with focus groups of businesses as well as with individual companies on a one-to-one basis. The Forum works in partnership with other agencies, bodies, businesses and individuals to achieve its objectives of acting as a hub for information, strengthening networks, promoting specific projects with industry-wide benefit, and addressing the needs of both large and small companies, recognising the need for differing approaches.
The Forum also welcomes connections with forest industry companies beyond Great Britain.

The e-Business Forum pursues seven key aims:
1. Create and communicate an industry vision
2. Encourage joint strategy initiatives
3. Encourage best practice management & control
4. Encourage & increase use of standard IT infrastructure
5. Provide a means of measuring current supply chain costs
6. Create and communicate beneficial processes and services
7. Encourage risk and reward behaviour

The Forum delivers these aims through awareness building, organisational learning, and by influencing technology and information exchange.
